2014 marked the third consecutive year where investment in the development of new buy-to-let student accommodation in the UK exceeded £2 billion.
Landlords are increasingly turning to fully managed student property due to the stable nature of the sector. Despite the recession, student property continued to generate strong yields, with Knight Frank naming it as the best performing UK asset class every year since 2011.
With many students paying for rent in advance due to the structure of their student loan, many landlords are reaping the benefits of an asset class which typically has smaller void periods than more traditional buy-to-let opportunities.
And with Jones Lang LaSalle expecting investor demand to increase by 70% over the next 4 years, it looks like the asset class is here to stay.
