As we approach the end of 2018, it’s time to look back on the headlines and talking points of the past year. For Opto Property Group, it has been an eventful time, with plenty to remember and celebrate.

Here are some of the particular highlights of this year for the business…

Awards success

Opto Property Group received two Developer of the Year award nominations this year –the first at the Property Wire Awards in March and the second at the National LIS Awards in November.

The firm triumphed at the Property Wire Awards, beating competition from two giants oft he industry – Barratt Homes and Galliard Homes – to pick up the accolade. The prize reflected its work on delivering properties such as Chapel Street and Park House, two purpose-built student accommodation developments near the University of Bedfordshire.

Group director Jerald Solis said: “We are so pleased that Opto Property Group has been named the Developer of the Year at this year’s Property Wire Awards. The whole team was pleased to be nominated in a category with two outstanding nominees, and to emerge as the winner is a reflection of all of our hard work.

“We will continue to strive to deliver and adhere to the highest standards in our industry and we would like to thank everyone who voted for us.”

Completion of New Bedford House

Opto Property Group is making a big contribution to the range of available housing in the London commuter belt with New Bedford House in Luton, which is due to be delivered, on time and on budget, before the end of 2018 with snagging to be completed throughout January 2019.

This £8 million development will provide 54 one and two-bedroom apartments just a few minutes’ walk away from Luton train station. Easy access to London will make the property an attractive option for people working in the capital, while additional features such as high-speed Wi-Fi and free parking further boost its appeal.

For investors, New Bedford House offers good prospects for rental yields in a well-established commuter hotspot. Ongoing capital growth is also on the cards, after Luton experienced property price inflation of nearly ten per cent in the past year, according to research by Post Office Money.

Opto Student Newcastle progressing well

Opto Student Newcastle is a purpose-built student accommodation project made up of 227 self-contained studio apartments close to Newcastle University and Northumbria University.

Good progress made by Opto Property Group over the course of 2018 means the development is on course for completion in Q3 2019 – in time for the start of the next academic year.

Student accommodation has emerged as one of the most lucrative sectors of the UK property investment market in recent years, partly thanks to the enduring appeal of British higher education institutions. With its prestigious universities and appealing lifestyle benefits, Newcastle is a particularly attractive location for students.

Investors in Opto Property Group’s current development in the city can benefit from assurances of eight per cent net rental returns for five years.

Ready for construction at Imperial Square

One of the most exciting projects for Opto Property Group at the moment is Imperial Square, another residential development in Luton that will help to meet strong demand for housing in London’s commuter belt.

The company is now on-site and looking forward to getting construction work underway soon.

Imperial Square comprises three contemporary buildings in the centre of Luton and, like New Bedford House, gives London commuters easy access to the capital via rail and road links.

Buyers can currently secure early investor discounts of up to 10 per cent, as well as the best pick of available units.

New projects on the horizon

With the start of a new year approaching, Opto Property Group is looking forward to commencing work on a number of key projects in 2019.

Among the planned developments are new residential and commercial developments in Luton and Cardiff. The Welsh capital has experienced substantial house price growth in recent years and offers strong prospects for buyers to see consistent returns in the near future.
